An Interpreting Report Under The Guidance Of Translation Variation Theory

With more international exchanges and co-operations,the amount of information in interpreting activities are also on the rise.In order to improve the quality of interpreting and satisfy the audience's needs,it is increasingly necessary to employ translation theories to guide the activities and adopt different forms of translation strategies to modify the source language.Although the Translation Variation Theory was first put forward to analyze and guide translation work,it also proposed satisfying specific readers' special demands under specific circumstance when invented at that time.Furthermore,readers and the audience are all target-language recipients.Therefore,it becomes extremely necessary to study its applicability and guiding role in interpreting practices.In May 2019,the 3rd International Conference on Grassroots and Local Governance,namely 'The Search for Deliberative Democracy in Asia',is held by Institute for China Rural Studies,Central China Normal University.The author is honored to participate in the whole event and act as a lecture interpreter for Dr.Catherine Owen,a postdoctoral research fellow of Exeter University.Under the guidance of the theory of Translation Variation Theory,this thesis,combined with Dr.Catherine Owen's lecture "Local Governance in Contemporary Russia",aims to demonstrate the applicability and guiding role of Translation Variation Theory in interpreting practice.Apart from the analysis of the good application of Translation Variation Theory in this interpreting practice,the thesis provides better solutions to the problems occurred during the interpreting under the guidance of the Theory,including the translation of terminology,disfluency,verbatim and inability to fulfill completeness,by employing supplement,deletion,edition and summarization under the Theory.Finally,the author concludes the thesis by presenting their guiding role and limitation,hoping to provide some reference for the future interpretation activities in the relevant direction,and help improve the quality of them.
