Social anxiety is an individual's anxiety about social activities in the face of social situations.Excessive social anxiety will have a serious impact on college students' social adaptation and mental health. In general, individuals with higher emotional intelligence are better at handling interpersonal relationships, have better interpersonal relationships, and experience less anxiety in social situations.Individuals with high self-esteem rated themselves more positively and showed less social anxiety during social interactions. The dimensions that college students of different genders value in self-evaluation vary greatly, and they also show different ways to deal with social difficulties. Therefore,it is very important to study the relationship among emotional intelligence,self-esteem and social anxiety to improve the social anxiety of college students. The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship and mechanism of the interaction among them and the role of gender in them.Through quantitative research, this paper took college students as the research object, and used convenient sampling method to issue questionnaires in the WeChat group and QQ group of college students.A total of 543 questionnaires were collected,480 of which were valid, with an effective rate of 88.40%.There were 223 male students(46.46%)and 257 female students(53.54%).Research tools included the Chinese version of the emotional intelligence scale prepared by Wong and Law(2002),the self-esteem scale prepared by Rosenberg(1965),and the interaction anxiety scale prepared by Leary(1983).SPSS22.0 was used for statistical analysis of the data and the results were as follows:(1)the emotional intelligence of college students is at the above average level, and the score of emotional intelligence of female college students is significantly higher than that of male college students. There was no significant difference in grade;(2)the self-esteem of college students is above the average level, with no significant difference in gender and grade;(3)the social anxiety of college students is above the average level, with no significant difference in gender and grade;(4)there was a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and self-esteem,and a significant negative correlation between emotional intelligence and social anxiety.(5)college students' self-esteem plays a completely mediating role between emotional intelligence and social anxiety, with the mediating effect accounting for 73.3%of the total effect;(6)gender plays a regulating role between college students' emotional intelligence and self-esteem.Compared with women, men's self-esteem is more easily affected by emotional intelligence. In general, emotional intelligence can reduce the social anxiety level of college students through the mediating effect of self-esteem.In addition, although women emotional intelligence is significantly higher than male, but male levels of self-esteem are more susceptible to the influence of emotional intelligence, therefore, can cultivate and enhance the emotional intelligence of college students, especially male students'emotional intelligence,to enhance the level of college students' self-esteem and thus reduce the social anxiety of college students.
