Social anxiety refers to the anxiety generated in the process of being socializedbecause people’s social roles and social behavior cannot satisfy their predeterminedexpected goals. Its basic performances include uncomfortableness, tension, fear ofbeing misunderstood and others’ negative evaluation which could result in withdrawalbehavior. Self esteem refers to the positive evaluation and experience about self valueobtained by individuals in their social comparison process. Self esteem has apredictable effect on social anxiety. Both self esteem and social anxiety haveinfluences on mental health of college students. Especially in ethnic universities orcolleges, due to many factors such as natural situations, economic development,cultural customs, ethnic psychology and etc. the complex and peculiarity of ideologicaland political education of the ethnic universities or colleges becomes more necessary,meanwhile,the students’ social anxiety and self-esteem must present their own traitsduring the process of ethnic cultural confliction and compatibility.Therefore, in orderto raise the level of students’self-esteem, reduce their social anxiety, improve educationquality of the national colleges’s psychological health, It is of theoretical and practicalsignificance to research on minority college students’ social anxiety and self-esteem.On the basis of domestic and foreign researches on social anxiety and self-esteem,this assay focuses on ethnic college students’social anxiety and self esteem. First of all,using the Interaction Anxiety Scale (IAS) and Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES) Itest on244students in the South-Central University For Nationalities, SouthwestUniversity for Nationalities and Northwest University For Nationalities and successfullygather true data of minority college students’ social anxiety and self-esteem level; andthen, analyze the students’ social anxiety and self esteem differences according to theirethnic, gender and grade to analyze the change and the law of development; finally, onthe basis of correlation analysis and regression analysis on minority college students’social anxiety and self esteem, I try to put forward some strategies to improve thenational college students’ self-esteem level as to reduce the level of social anxiety aswell. The results of this study show that:1, for students of ethnic universities, there is a low social anxiety (37.07±5.92).Expect for the student cadre (P=0.004*), minority college students social anxiety interms of gender, nationality, grades, only child is not significantly different. Seniorstudents’ social anxiety level is the highest (38±5.27), while the anxiety level fromfreshman to the third grader declines as the grade rise.2, for students of ethnic universities, there is a high self-esteem level (23.86±4.55),Expect for the student cadre(p=0.000*), minority college students social anxiety interms of gender, nationality, grades, only child is not significantly different. Thenational college students’ self-esteem level increases as the grade rise.3, national college students’ social anxiety and self esteem is in significantlynegative correlation (correlation coefficient of0.314**, P <0.01). At the same time,the level of self-esteem can significantly predict social anxiety level (t=5.149, P <0.01)According to the research results, this study puts forward correspondingcountermeasures to the National College Students’ psychological health education fromthree aspects of society, school and individual:1, social aspect: to increase the politicaland financial aids to strengthen national institutions, and to strengthen the promotionof mental health education and assistance of national institutions;2, school aspect: tostrengthen the ideological education of college students of Ethnic Universities andcolleges; to strengthen the construction of campus culture in Colleges and universitiesfor Nationalities; to strengthen the psychological health education of college students;3,individual aspects: to promote overall positive self-awareness; to learn positiveemotional regulation; cultivate a wide range of interests; to establish a good socialsupport system; to form a positive attribution style; to form a reasonable expectation;to form an active and reasonable social comparison.
