The “going global” of Chinese excellent culture has become an important way to show the image of the nation. The selected text of this practice report,The Ordinary World,is a masterpiece of over one million words written by Chinese writer Lu Yao.This book shows the real scenes of rural and urban areas in northern Shaanxi in the1970 s and 1980 s,and portrays many ordinary characters struggling for the ideal of life. This book is of great inspiration.Based on the translation of 30,000 words, the author selects chapters 9 and10 for a total of more than 10,000 words for her translation report. This report consists of six parts, and the main body includes four chapters. The first chapter is a description of the translation task, which explains the text content and the language features of the source text. The second chapter is an introduction to the translation process, including preparation of pre-translation,while-translating process, and post-translation proofreading. The third chapter is case analysis, which is also the highlights of the report.Guided by the functional equivalence theory,it mainly deals with the difficulties encountered in the English translation process at the lexical and syntactic levels.Lexical-level problems are mainly lie in political words, dialect words, and information redundant words;the syntactic difficulties are mainly in the long sentences with Chinese features and run-on sentences of Chinese language. On the basis of grasping the characteristics of the text, the author makes use of free translation, compensation, combination and other translation techniques to reproduce the simplicity and nature of the original text as much as possible. The fourth chapter is the reflections on this translation practice report, which mainly explains the gains and limitations in the translation process. The author summarizes experience by enumerating the difficulties encountered in the translation process and the translation methods and techniques adopted, with a view to providing references for promoting the translation of Chinese culture.
