Over the years,researches on the translation of western literature continue to rise,yet those on the history of the translation of western literature are few.Since the history of the literature translation is beneficial to readers to know the background,procedure and influence of the creation of works,it can assist the further study on the literature translation.The study on the The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English is a long literary masterpiece,integrating the appreciation and analysis of English literature and history of translation.On the one hand,the book elaborates the trail of progress of English literature,and such distinctive history attracts translators from all over the world.On the other hand,this book displays the development conditions of English literature from 1550 to 1660.Besides,it also introduces various masterpieces,their authors,and creation of background during this period.The part the author renders of this book(4th Section,5th Chapter,Volume ?,Book 1)mainly introduces the translation of lyric poetry in this phase,including all sorts of poems like Horatian Odes and Epodes,Ovidian Elegiac Poetry,ancient Greek Poetry,Vernacular Lyric and so forth.Now that there are massive expressions in historical records,the author exercises the functional equivalence theory put forward by Nida in accordance with the characters of literature translation,and analyzes and summarizes lexical equivalence,syntactical equivalence,textual equivalence,stylistic equivalence and other aspects in detail.Through the study,the author finds that implementing translation strategies under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory can promote the efficiency and accuracy of literature translation.Accordingly,it is of significance to some degree for the latter scholars when they study the translation of such documents.
