In the context of globalization and cross-cultural communication,it is necessary to improve the cultural soft power of our county, protect cultural diversity, highlight ethnic cultural characteristics, promote international exchanges and cooperation, and strive to share the ethnic culture with the world.Western Hunan(hereinafter referred to as Xiangxi),which is increasingly opening to the outside world, has a brilliant and colorful minority culture. While the ethnic culture translation and its dissemination effect is playing a key role in promoting Xiangxi Culture to the global stages, which is directly related to the economic development and the expansion of cultural influence in this region. Therefore, the translator must shoulder the responsibility and obligation of sharing the ethnic culture with the world. This translation practice is based on the Chinese-English translation practice of the first section of Chapter Eight of An Ethnographic Report on the Miao people in the Xiangxi Area, which is one of the most important and marvelous parts of this book and mainly presents the Xiangxi religious culture.Additionally, this report aims to be guided by the Cultural Translation Theory.Based on this theory, the translator summarizes the translation principles that are in line with the characteristics of ethnic culture translation practice, namely foreignization going first, domestication going second, cultural adaptability and aesthetic principle.Under the premise of the above relevant translation principles, the translator appropriately applies transliteration with explanation, literal translation and literal translation with explanation, liberal translation, substitution, deculturation and picture translation to actively deal with the translation difficulty of culture-loaded words in Xiangxi religious Ghost-worshipping Ceremony and adopts amplification, conversion of voice, division, combination, linear translation and affirmation and negation expression to cope with the translation difficulty of distinctive sentences in Xiangxi religious Ghost-worshipping Ceremony,so as to better explore the cultural connotations of Xiangxi ethnic culture, reach a higher level of functional equivalence in cultural translation between the source language and the target language, and finally achieve a deeper level of bilingual cultural exchange. In this translation practice, the translator is deeply aware that Cultural Translation Theory is of great guiding significance to this translation practice concerning ethnic cultural translation.Based on the connotations of this theory, the translator should fully respect the cultural differences, endeavor to preserve the ethnic characteristics of the source culture and accurately convey the cultural information of the source language as much as possible. It is hoped that through this pleasant journey of exploring Chinese ethnic culture translation, the translator can make contributions to the promotion of Miao culture in Xiangxi, let the world better understand the Chinese stories, listen to the China's voice and transmit the Chinese wisdom, thus achieving the goal of nourishing the world civilization.
