Since President Trump came into power,the United States has introduced new tariffs on imports from several trading partners on the pretext of either national security concerns,unfair trade practices,or serious injury to domestic industries.As relevant countries adopt targeted policies,protectionist measures are growing all over the world.Due to the close trade exchanges among countries,trade disputes not only bring serious impacts to the countries concerned,but they may also endanger other developing countries of weaker economic strength.The report of Traders' Dilemma: Developing Countries Response to Trade Disputes released by the World Bank envisages four strategies to be adopted by developing countries for dealing with trade disputes,and analyzes the different impacts to be brought by different strategies,providing guidance and basis for developing countries to choose appropriate strategies to deal with trade wars.This report takes as its object of translation the paper of Traders' Dilemma: Developing Countries Response to Trade Disputes,hoping that the Chinese translation provided by this report will help relevant Chinese readers to learn about the feasible ways for coping with trade disputes,which will also be beneficial for us Chinese to deal with the trade war launched by the United States against China.The report consists of five parts: introduction,task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The first part introduces the background,purpose and significance of the report.The second part of task description discusses the text characteristics and target readers on the basis of the introduction of the basic information of source text.The third part introduces the translation process in detail,including the pre-translation preparation process(including parallel texts,theoretical framework,and translation plan)as well as quality control(including establishment of a glossary,use of translation tools and guidance of professionals).In the fourth part of case analysis,typical cases on the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and text are selected for analyzing the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and relevant measures for solving those difficulties are put forward.The last part is a summary of the report,which points out the deficiencies of the report and what the current author has gained from this translation experience.With this translation practice and report,the current author has gained insight into the following three aspects: Firstly,she has gained a deeper understanding of the lexical features and language styles of economic texts,and has learned a number of professional terms about trade and tax.Secondly,she has a better command of methods and techniques for translating economic texts,and methods as to how to deal with charts and figures in the translation ofeconomic texts.Lastly,she has a new understanding to the impact of trade disputes on countries around the world.It is hoped that the report will shed light on the strategies and methods for translating texts of economy and trade war.
