Under the background of the Belt and Road's initiative to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with countries along the belt and road and to spread Chinese culture,English as a carrier of cultural communication definitely plays an vital role,which requires students' ability of spreading Chinese culture obtained from English teaching.In the meantime,National English Curriculum Standards for Common High School(2017)(NECS)makes it clear that culture awareness is one of the objectives of the curriculum,which requires the formation of students' firm cultural confidence,good characters of self-respect,self-confidence and self-improvement,and the ability of cross-cultural communication and dissemination of Chinese culture.English textbooks act as the main approach of English teaching in current China,the selection and design of which to some degree determine whether the teaching goals can be reached.Therefore,with the aim of cultivating students' culture awareness and the ability to spread Chinese culture,evaluation on Chinese cultural content in English textbooks is worthy to be conducted.Based on the background,by means of content analysis and questionnaire,the current study aims to analyze and evaluate the Chinese cultural contents in NSEFC,the most widely used English textbook in China,in line with the requirements of NECS as follows.Firstly,Chinese cultural content in the textbooks is combed and presented.Secondly,on the macro level,the paper evaluates the overall presentation of Chinese cultural content in the textbook and sorts out its characteristics.And on the micro level,it analyzes and evaluates the Chinese cultural content in the textbook from the perspective of the structure of culture.Thirdly,from the students' point of view,this paper investigates the students' satisfaction with the contents of Chinese culture in the textbook.After analysis,the author gains the following results.Firstly,general distribution of Chinese cultural content in different parts of NSEFC is demonstrated.Secondly,in terms of its evaluation,the author finds out that generally speaking,it is characterized by heterogeneous distribution,high relevance and emphasis on input.And from the perspective of cultural structure,the types of Chinese cultural contents in NSEFC are diverse,but there are multi-level imbalances and a shortage of in-depth culture.Thirdly,from the perspective of students,the overall satisfaction of students on Chinese cultural content is at a low level.To be more exact,despite its appropriateness of difficulty,Chinese cultural content is short of richness,innovation and practicability,and it plays a weak role in improving students' language ability and intercultural communicative competence.At the same time,on basis of the above results,this paper provides some responding suggestions for textbook compilers and English teachers.
