With the innovation and breakthrough of the world's cultural industry, the cultural forms mainly represented by films, televisions, literature, animations and video games have penetrated into each other, producing many cultural products.Among them, the film and game industries are particularly favored by the cultural capital. The close integration has formed a trend of linkage between them. The films adapted from the video game is an important part of this linkage, and it has been more than 20 years. After a period of silence,it has become popular again in recent years, with many commercial blockbusters represented by Warcraft,Assassin's Creed, and Legend of the Ancient Sword appearing on the screen. However,in contrast to the reality that the cultural industry capital is enthusiastically devoting itself in it,it is an embarrassing situation that the films adapted from video games fails to achieve success at the box office and the public praise. Why is it difficult for it to achieve the desired effect? This paper aims to observe from the perspective of transmedia storytelling, analyze the strategies of transmedia storytelling used in this kind of film works, summarize the problems and put forward the corresponding optimization suggestions. This paper uses the method of literature review and case analysis to carry out the research from the perspective of transmedia storytelling, combining with the representative works of the films adapted from video games. This article first analyzes the industry, technology, and audience basis, and sorts out the process of narrative elements in the video games from scratch, and from simple to complex.Afterwards, this article explores the basis of narrative interoperability in the creation process of the films adapted from the video games, and the narrative differences that need to be crossed and exist in video games and films. On this basis, this article combines related works to summarize three types of cross-media narrative strategies, namely, the hyperplastic narrative, the parallel narrative and the extended narrative. Finally, this paper sorts out and summarizes the main problems in the process of transmedia storytelling, such as the aesthetic dislocation in technical special effects, the thin and chaotic narrative structure, and the imbalance between pleasure and beauty. The optimization suggestions are put forward based on the existing problems, and the future of the films adapted from video games can be expected.
