A Practical Report For Translating English Into Chinese In Perspective Of The Reader's Response Theory

Key performance indicator is a quantitative indicator that measures the job performance of staff.It is the most direct way to measure the job efficiency.This translation practice project is a business administration textbook translation from English to Chinese,named Key Performance Indicators.The author of this textbook introduces some latest ideas and management concepts,based on the twenty-year study and summary,to help the manager and company that will implement the key performance indicator project.Moreover,this translation project is entrusted by Chinese Machine Press and responsible by two professors of Northeastern University.Then two professors distribute this translation project to this report translator and others.This report translator is responsible for four chapters' translation(the 16th chapter,17th chapter,appendix C,appendix E)about 25 thousand English words,translated by the translator independently.First,the translation report is a western book on humanities and social sciences,which has academic,logic and interdisciplinary characteristic,including much professional knowledge and cultural difference.Therefore,the translator should understand task context,task characteristics.During the translation,the author needs to keep this text characteristic in mind and create.And the translation theory of this report is the reader's response theory,created by Eugene Nida.This translation meaning is that after reading the translation,the target language readers should react the same as the source language readers do to the biggest degree.It stresses the importance of the readers.So the whole translation project follows the guidance of this theory.The translation difficulties include strong professional knowledge,ambiguous word meaning and many complex sentences.Based on these translation difficulties,the translation strategies include amplification and omission,abstraction and concreteness,clauses and compound sentences.These translation techniques can help to achieve the clear and coherent translation effect and rigorous and elaborate translation style.After completing the first version translation,the translator needs to polish the translation.So the translator does the qualitative research on twenty readers,and for their two feedbacks,the translator need summary and revise the translation.In addition,the translator supports the colleagues to plan the company key performance index during the internship,which make the company run better.Meanwhile,the translator tests the translation by internship experience.Finally,the translation practice project is done at January 2017 and comes out at April 2017.The translator learns the administration business knowledge and resource integration,understand the importance for managing translation project and improve the translation ability.Moreover,the translation report can give some reference for translators who translate this type of text,bring knowledge for readers who read this translation and provide guidance for companies who implement the key performance indicators.
