Translation Of Gain Under The Guidance Of Reader's Response Theory

This is a translation report for the novel Gain. The writer of this novel, Richard Powers, is very famous, and this novel that attaches technology, environment and survivor problems of human beings plays an important role in his writer life. Gain reveals that the industrial revolution and advanced technology have diverse effects on society and people's life. Based on the whole process of this translation practice, the thesis describes and analyses the problems and solutions met.This report consists of five parts:the description of the original text, the process of the translation, the introduction of the theory used in the thesis, the analysis of the translation examples and the conclusion of this translation practice. In the first part, the thesis introduces the main contents of this translation text. The translation process includes the preparation in the beginning of the translation, difficulties in the modification of the first draft, and the struggle to improve the translation text until the final draft. In the third part, the thesis briefs on the reader's response theory that acts as theory support of the thesis and its use in this report. The translation process describes both the author's works in this translation report and the analysis of the original text, as well as the translation strategies and the problems of every revision. The main part of this translation report is the analysis of examples. The thesis deals with the difficult points of the translation practice from three aspects:vocabulary, syntax and discourse. The thesis uses some translation skills in the translation process, like analyzing long sentences and confirming the meaning of words according to the context. The last part of the report is the summary of the translation, which describing the experiences gained in this translation practice.The literature translation can improve translation skills.
