The source text is chosen from the first chapter of the book Children,Family and the State written by David William Archard. The author introduces the meaning and practical significance of rights of children, parent and the state by comprehensively using the viewpoints and practical cases of relevant scholars. The Chinese version of the Children,Family and the State helps readers to understand the rights of children, parents and the state, and calls on people to respect and protect children,on the other hand,it is beneficial for children to understand the true meanings of rights and learn to defend their legitimate rights and interests with legal weapons. Moreover, the translation version can also provide reference for domestic scholars studying rights of children.Newmark's semantic translation emphasizes the accuracy of the original information transmission, and communicative translation focuses on the reading experience of the target language readers, both of which are of great significance to the translation practice.Guided by the theories of semantic translation and communicative translation, the author of the report analyzes the key points and corresponding translation skills in the translation process at lexical, syntactical and textual levels.First of all,the author of the report makes use of collocation,four-character expressions in Chinese and part-of-speech conversion to analyze the words in cases. Then in terms of syntactical level,in combination with the principles of communicative translation, the translator analyzes the long and complex sentences in the source text by using the translation skills of splitting and restructuring. Finally the author of the report takes communicative translation as the guidance to deal with the reference, repetition and parenthesis in the source text,so as to ensure the smooth and fluent translation and make it easier for the target reader to understand and accept. The translation report consists of five parts.Chapter one mainly introduces the background information, the objectives and the significance of the translation task, the introduction to the author and the source text, and the structure of the report. The second part is the translation process description consisting of three steps pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation,and in this part a general description is made on preparing translation tools, determining terminology, making a task schedule, difficulties encountered, determining translation strategies,self-proofreading and modification as well as feedback from reviewers. The third chapter introduces the theoretical basis including Newmark's text typology theory, semantic translation and communicative translation as well as the application of the two translation theories. The fourth part is the case analysis in which the writer of the report analyzes the important and difficult points in the translation process and the corresponding translation methods at lexical level, syntactical level and discourse level.Chapter five is a summary of this translation task including major findings, limitations and suggestions for future translation practices.
