This practice report is based on a Chinese to English translation of a marketing text called Art of Chinese Marketing.In this report,the author chooses Chapter Seven as the translation material and does related translation analysis.This book introduces and analyzes many basic and practical marketing theories and ideas on the basis of abundant marketing practice at home and abroad.Semantic translation and communicative translation can effectively solve the translation problems and difficulties in translation(Newmark,2001).According to Newmark's classification on text types and language functions,this text can be regarded as an informative marketing text with expressive and vocative function.In this report,communicative translation is adopted to deal with the translation of Chinese culture-loaded words,over-redundancy and insufficient redundancy.About the treatment of Chinese culture-loaded words,three translation methods,cultural analogy,free translation and transliteration with annotation,are used.About the treatment of over-redundancy and insufficient redundancy,omission,shift and amplification are used respectively.In addition,semantic translation is adopted to deal with the translation of marketing words and rhetorical expressions,and three translation methods,matching equivalence,semantic selection and literal translation,are used.Finally,in conclusion,the author finds out that communicative translation and semantic translation can give a good guideance to the translation of an informative marketing text. |
