Literary works contributes to the cultural exchange among countries.Translators,as intermediaries,should have a high degree of literary sensitivity.The literary form of prose,like other literary forms such as novels and plays,has its unique aesthetic beauty.This report is a translation report of the essays In Pursuit of Spring(excerpt).The book was written by the English essayist and poet Edward Thomas.It is a beautifully written account of the author's journey west from London in pursuit of spring.The author shows what he has seen and heard along the way in a language full of romance and imagination,and expresses his love for life and nature.Although this book is more than a hundred years ago,but excellent works can withstand the test of time,and now there is no Chinese translation as well as Chinese readers know little about Edward.The translator translated this book for the following reasons: First,the translator wanted to introduce this excellent literary work to Chinese readers;Second,she wanted to introduce Edward Thomas;Third,the translator can improve her own translation skills and aesthetic appreciation.The report is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction of the translation task,including the background and purpose of task,the introduction of the author and the text.The second part is the translation process.The translator firstly prepared the dictionary,map and other tools before translating.And then she read the text before carried out the translation,and finally analyzed and revised the draft.The translator had encountered many difficulties,such as the translation of place names,long sentences and cultural phenomena,as well as the understanding difficulties caused by the differences between English and Chinese languages.The translator adopted different solutions to these problems.The third part is case analysis,which is the focus of this report.Based on the analysis of Liu Miqing's theory of aesthetic object in translation,the translator adopts four methods: compensation,free translation,choice of words and collocations,as well as word order adjustment.In the last part,the translator summarizes the unresolved problems in translation,and also express her own thoughts and enlightenments for the future work.The translator has gain a new understanding of In Pursuit of Spring and its author.At the same time,she has also accumulated some skills in translating prose,which will provide experience for future literary translation.
