A Report On The Translation Of Industrial Economic Status And Development Planning Of Gongyi County

With the demanding of local economic activities,government documents on economic development have become a common type of translation tasks.Such documents are featured with diverse characteristics,in terms of mainly small or medium-sized projects.The quality of their translation often affects the image of local governments and the results of investment.This report is based on the Chinese-English translation of Industrial Economic Status and Development Planning of Gongyi County,a form of government report,which is an important document written by the People's Government of Gongyi County in 2017.This document introduces the development of industrial economy in Gongyi County from the aspects of strategic position,historical background,industrial situation,industrial development and work planning.In the process of translation,the translator noticed that a large number of technical terminologies were involved in the original text,including aluminum product terms,mechanical equipment terms,refractory industry terms,water purification material industry terms,carpet industry terms,etc.These terms are highly professional and difficult to be understood and translated.Improper understanding will lead to translation errors,resulting in readers' inability to accurately understand the quality or function of a product.In addition,there are some words with Chinese characteristics,sentences without subject and sentences with semantic repetition in the original text.Therefore,the translator takes the translation of technical terminology,words with Chinese characteristics,sentences without subject and sentences with semantic repetition in government documents as the main research object,discusses how to accurately grasp the meanings of phrase and sentence in the process of translation,and adopts appropriate strategies to make the translation not only accurate and smooth,but also professional,and provides reference and inspiration for future translation and research of government documents.This report is divided into four parts.The first part is a brief description of the translation task,which mainly introduces the background and significance of the project,as well as the development of Gongyi County and something about the original text.The second part is the translation process,including preparation work,text translation and modification,post proofreading and the difficulties encountered during the translation process.The third part is a case analysis on the translation of technical terminology in the documents.The translator first gives a brief introduction to Skopos theory,technical terms,words with Chinesecharacteristics,sentences without subject and sentences with semantic repetition and then discusses how to adopt appropriate translation methods to translate them accurately,with the purpose of ensuring the accuracy and professionalism of the translation by combining the skopos rule and the rule of fidelity.The last part is the conclusion,which is the translator's summary of the whole translation practice,and it also points out the shortcomings of this report.
