This report is written on basis of an E-C translation project that involves An Introduction to Landscape and Garden Design as the source text.The translator is mainly responsible for Chapter One,Chapter Two,Chapter Three,Chapter Four,Chapter Five and Chapter Eight.The source text makes the illustrations from several aspects including the role of the landscape designer,design philosophies and aesthetic principles,design process as well as soft landscape design.The successful implementation of this project shall not only provide a valuable book of reference to practitioners engaged in the field of landscape and design,but also play an important role in boosting the long-term development of this sector.Guided by the general translation principles of domestication,the translator has selected some typical examples to explore the possibilities of translation in three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and discourses.In terms of the lexical translation,the translator has analyzed the translation methods of the pronouns and the acronyms.Bearing in mind a central goal to faithfully render the information conveyed by the writer of the source text,the translator focuses in particular on the accuracy of words and phrases to maintain the stylistic characteristics and textual style of the scientific and technological texts.At sentence level,the translator has adopted such translation methods as perspective-shifting,amplification,division and liberal translation based on analysis of the source text to make the target translation much more faithful and expressive.At the level of discourses,in order to achieve the communicative function of the target language,the translator has listed the typical translation cases and analyzed the usage of the conjunctions to ensure that the target language is consistent with the source language in content and coherent in organization.Through the implementation of this project,the translator has not only gained some experience,but also recognizes that translation is more than a process of language coding and decoding,but a cultural exchange and communication in essence.What's more,the deficiencies in garden-related knowledge and expressive ability ought to be made up by study and practice.In the end,the translator has presented the enlightenments and problems in the form of report so as to provide the reference to the new landscape practitioners and translators.
