A Report On The Translation Of An Introduction To Landscape And Garden Design(Excepts)

In recent years,with the accelerating pace of urban modernization in China,people pay more and more attention to ecological and environmental protection.In urban construction,landscape and garden planning can not only protect the natural environment,but also improve the utilization rate of natural resources,reshape the natural ecology and the relationship between human and nature,so as to improve the quality of public life.This translation report is based on a project that the author has taken part in.The source text in this project is An introduction to Landscape and Garden Design,a professional book on landscape architecture published by James Blake in 2015.The author is responsible for the translation of Chapter 8,Chapter 9 and Chapter 17 to 22,which primarily address such issues as drawing method,principle,tools,equipment,drawing effect,layout and so on.The translation of this project can provide reference for professionals in landscape and garden design,and provide guidance for practitioners in practical operation.According to the professional knowledge of landscape architecture,we can protect the limited resources on the earth and make effective use of them to add a strong artistic atmosphere to the environment.According to the content of the project,the text is an expository-text style with a preference for information transmission,aiming to introduce the contents involved in landscape design in detail to readers.The language is formal and contains a large number of professional expressions.Therefore,in the process of translation,it is not only necessary to conform to the type of text,language structure and context,but also pay attention to the effect of information transmission of source language,strive to express professionalism,and ensure the accuracy of translation.On the basis of faithfulness to the original text,the author chooses the domesticating translation strategy,adopts a variety of translation methods,such as conversion,adding or subtracting translation,adjusting sentence structure and paying attention to the cohesion of the text.In combination withspecific cases,the translation is analyzed from three levels,namely the semantic,the syntactic and the discoursal level.Finally,the author summarizes and reflects on the translation practice to accumulate experience for future translation work.
