A Report On The Translation Of Handbook Of X Company (Mini-car Series)

Automobile Industry is one of the most advantageous and potential pillar industries in Guangxi.The total amount of automobile industry in Liuzhou takes the proportion of 75% of automobile industry in this area.There are four vehicles and special vehicle production bases.The report is based on writer's translation of Handbook of X company(Mini-car Series)in X Automobile company during the internship.The translation of the handbook program is one of the missions of translation task.Brief introduction of X company,knowledge of basic products and after-sale service are included in the text of the report.The rapid development of regional automobile mechanical technology makes the international technology communication frequent and the demand of sci-tech translation is increased,but there are still many people who ignore the existence of sci-tech English.They think sci-tech English is only a simple combination of grammar and technical vocabulary.The features of sci-tech English are accurate,precise and regulated.Sci-tech translation should keep the features in the text,which requires that translator should obey principles of faithfulness,fluency and standardization in translation to make the source text and translation text correspondent.Under this circumstance,this report introduces Linguistic Adaptation Theory to guide sci-tech translation.According to Verscheuren(2000),linguistic adaptation theory promotes the concept of selection and adaption to the core position,so there is ontological status.The properties of variability,negotiability and adaptability of language are based on making continuous election and adaption,which is the most fundamental requisite of language use.In a sense,linguistic adaptation theory is closely related to sci-tech translation and there is an important revelation.The ability of translation,pragmatic strategies and the ability to express language could be improved.Therefore,this practical report makes a careful investigation into the automobile translation from the perspective of linguistic adaptation theory proposed by Verschueren.The automobile translation carried out the technical thought is explored and the unique of vocabulary and sentence pattern as well as the complicated relationship between sentence elements are exposed.The requirement of word should be accurate and grammar structure is strict.The expression of ideas should be literal to solve scientific terms,non-subject sentences,implicit logical relations and long complex sentences translations.This report aims at trying to correctly re-appear the automobile information of Handbook,so the translation practical value of the handbook would be shown.Besides,some common difficulties of sci-tech translation are chosen in this practice report.Attempt to solve these issues with proper translation theories and strategies to provide references for the future sci-tech English translation.
