Vocabulary learning is the basis of foreign language learning.The New Curriculum Standard(2011)also increased the requirements for English vocabulary learning,it not only requires students to master more vocabulary and phrases,but also requires students to learn how to learn and apply vocabulary.The use of English vocabulary learning strategies can not only improve students' English vocabulary learning efficiency,laying a better foundation for further English learning,but also enhance students' English learning ability.Middle school is the golden stage for students to learn English,guiding and training students' vocabulary learning strategies can help them to actively accept,store and internalize what they have learned.This article is based on relevant second language acquisition theory,constructivism theory and strategic knowledge transformation theory,these three theories laid a solid theoretical foundation for this article.The author reviews the research on vocabulary learning strategies in China and the west and made an objective analysis of the current situation of vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools.The author conducted a questionnaire survey to understand students' vocabulary learning concepts and the use of three different vocabulary learning strategies.According to questionnaire collection and data analysis of 150 junior secondary students' vocabulary learning concepts and vocabulary strategy in Zhifu District,Yantai,the author conducted an interview with teachers to find out the relationship between students' vocabulary learning strategies and teachers' vocabulary teaching methods.There are some confronting problems in vocabulary teaching in this investigation: Students generally do not agree that words need to be rote memorized.Most students general consent that words should be learned in application and context-reading.Teachers lacked the awareness of vocabulary teaching strategies and vocabulary teaching methods were monotonous,vocabulary testing methods were very single.According to the author's classroom observations,it is found that the mandatory requirements of teachers and the mechanical memory ofstudents are main methods of English vocabulary learning.Students spend a lot of time and vigour on memorizing words,but the result is not ideal.From the survey,we can see that junior high school students in grade 2 are very easy to be guided and influenced by teachers' vocabulary teaching methods.When teachers use scientific vocabulary teaching methods in daily teaching,students always follow the teacher's teaching learning methods and take adaptive vocabulary learning strategies consciously.Based on the above conclusions,combined with the relevant theories,the author proposes several specific suggestions for junior high school students from the aspects of vocabulary teaching,vocabulary learning strategy training and vocabulary learning.In short,vocabulary learning is the cornerstone of the entire language learning.In order to lay a good foundation,students should be able to reasonably use a variety of learning strategies in English vocabulary learning,and teachers should also change traditional vocabulary teaching concepts,teachers are not only the educators of knowledge,but also the instructors of learning strategies,which guides strategies into daily teaching(Li Yang,2016).The present research is fulfilling both to the application of junior high school EFL vocabulary teaching and to relevant research.In reality,its findings can be as the basis for the implementation or improvement of teacher's selection of proper strategies in junior high school EFL vocabulary teaching.Academically,this study may help to remedy the gaps of teachers' proper strategies and students' application in junior high school EFL classrooms.
