A Study On C-e Translation For The Text Of Red Tourism From The Perspective Of Functionalism

In recent years,red tourism becomes a hot topic and attracts millions of tourists at home and abroad.It's a new type of tourism with Chinese characteristics that combines modern tourism and revolutionary spirit.However,because of the differences on languages and cultures between English and Chinese,and the special features of red tourism texts,which include proper nouns about historical events,official titles,organizations and offices,the translation for the text of red tourism seems difficult.The quality of the translation for the text of red tourism will affect the foreign tourists' sense of experience,tourist attractions and even the city's image.Therefore,in order to promote red tourism,it is necessary to improve the accuracy of translation for the red tourism text.This thesis is a study on Chinese to English translation for the text of red tourism from the perspective of Functionalism,taking Yan'an as a case study.The literature analysis method is mainly employed to analyze the previous study on Functionalism and red tourism translation texts in Yan'an.The field research method is adopted to collect red tourism texts and translations.Functionalism is widely used in such translation research field as literature,law,tourism,advertisement and so on,but it is seldom used in C-E translation for the text of red tourism.Therefore,this thesis will base on Functionalism and analyze the red tourism texts from the aspect of text types,text functions,text features and relative translation principles summed.Taking Yan'an as a case study,the present author will study the C-E translation for the text of red tourism from the aspects of lexical level,syntactical level and textual level,to improve ifFunctionalism is available to the C-E translation for the text of red tourism.There are 5 chapters in the thesis.First of all,background of the study,objective of the study,significance of the study,the methodology of the study,and the organization of the study will be introduced.Then reviews of the relevant studies will be made,including studies on Functionalism,previous studies on red tourism translation and previous studies on Yan'an red tourism translation.The third chapter will focus on the analysis of the red tourism texts from the aspects of text types,text functions,text features and translation principles from the perspective of Functionalism.The text type of the red tourism text is informative text and vocative text,so the function of the text is to transmit information and induce action.The principles should follow coherence rule and fidelity rule.In the fourth chapter,taking some of the red tourism interpret texts in Yan'an as a case study,the present author does some analysis and comments on some typical examples from lexical level,syntactical level and textual level.Some translation strategies are provided.They are literal translation,free translation,transliteration,addition and deletion.In the fifth chapter,the conclusion is drawn that Functionalism is available to the C-E translation for the text of red tourism.Then limitations of the study and suggestions for further research are also put forward.
