This is a report on the translation of Translation in Transition Between Cognition,Computing and Technology,published by John Benjamins Publishing Company in 2017.This book gathers cutting-edge researches in translation theory and practice.Chapters 6and 7 were selected as the source text of this project,respectively presenting detailed empirical illustrations of the link between post-editing effort and post-edited text quality and the complexity involved in the assessment of translated text quality.Significance of translating this book is mainly reflected in two aspects.First,it enriches empirical research methods for the field of Humanities and Social Sciences,and presents typical cases for empirical research and new perspectives for translation studies.Second,the research findings may offer some reference for the translation industry,some guidelines for the decision makers and some knowledge of cutting-edge translation technology for the translators and readers interested in translation.The source text is generally objective,plain,logical and well-organized.Translation difficulties mainly lie in consistency and accuracy at the lexical level,passive voice and complex sentences at the syntactical level,and cohesion and coherence at the textual level.Newmark's text type theory,and semantic and communicative translation methods are adopted to guide the translation.Specifically,the consistency at the lexical level mainly depends on CAT tools;the accuracy is basically guaranteed by applying a reliable translation process and strengthened with the semantic translation method,while the communicative translation method is applied instead if idiomatic and readable translation is unattainable with the semantic translation method.Difficulties at the syntactic level are mainly addressed with the communicative translation method by converting passive voice into active voice and splitting and restructuring complex sentences,so as to make the target text conform to the Chinese language features as much as possible.The communicative translation method also plays a key role in eliminating cohesion and coherence problems at the textual level,which are mainly caused by conversion of perspectives or inconsistency of terms and sentences,and with the description perspectives adjusted and the wording unified,the translation can be better understood by the readers.
