The Functional Orientation Of Explaining "Music" In The Book Of Yue Ji

Yue ji is the first systematic treatise on music theory in China,and it is a masterpiece of the pre-qin Confucian theory of music.This book was written in the western han dynasty,on the basis of absorbing the theory and music of various schools in the pre-qin period,the collection was arranged and compiled by han scholars,forming a relatively complete ideological system of its own.As we all know,the “music” in Yue ji is totally different from the “music” we know today in all aspects.It carries many categories such as politics,religion,ethics and so on.It is closely related to the society and politics,and shows unique social practical value.Therefore,it is unfair to examine Yue ji only from the perspective of “art”.So this paper based on the historical context,from the perspective of society to understand the connotation of the “music” in Yue ji,comprehensive cognitive,social and cultural factors,such as the research focus on review the social value of “music”,namely “music” in the pre-qin society to implement the function of what and how these features are embodied in society and “music” is how to construct the core values and guiding the whole society.At the same time,it shows that the social function of “music” was first in the society at that time,and its form is only one of the manifestations of the function.Taking Yue ji as the research object,this paper discusses “Yue ji's textual structure”,“music's social function” and related issues from the perspective of function.The study was carried out in four parts.The first part focuses on the “text overview of Yue ji”.The purpose is to briefly comb and introduce the basic features of the text of Yue ji,and to understand the social background and cultural foundation of the text formation of Yue ji by discussing the age and author of Yue ji.On this basis,the paper investigates the three different orders of Yue ji chapters,selects one chapter order(Historical records·yue shu)that can best reflect the “function” nature,and conducts functional research on the text content of Yue ji with this article.The second part reexamines the titles and contents of Yue ji's eleven existing articles from the perspective of functions,and discusses the social functions and conceptual system embodied in Yue ji's articles and texts.Through the sorting of the text,Yue ji is compiled again from the three aspects of “the essence of music”,“the function of music” and “the practice of music” to objectively present the functional structure system of Yue ji.The third part is to discuss Yue ji's theory of“music”in a specific historical context.Firstly,the zhou dynasty society corresponding to the text of Yue ji is investigated to restore the historical fact that the original intention of making music is to maintain the royal rule.Secondly,the core value orientation of“music”in Yue ji is understood in the context of zhou dynasty culture,such as“Yi de pei tian(????)”,“Zunzun Qin qin Xianxian(??????)”,“He er bu tong(????)”,etc.Finally,the paper investigates the concrete performance of six specific functions of“music”demonstrated in the text of Yue ji in social practice,and presents its own unique functional logic structure system.The fourth part is the conclusion.It is pointed out that in the culture of rites and music,the social significance of “music” is greater than the form itself.
