The Growing Participator Approach(GPA)has a growing impact on a second language teaching method as its popularity among second language learners is evident.Although the GPA teaching method has been widely used in many countries and regions,its application in teaching Chinese as a Second Language(CSL)is still lacking.As it is well-known,the GPA teaching method underlines the training of a learner's listening and speaking skills.The current attention on teaching CSL is how to apply the GPA method more properly into the elementary level of listening and speaking class with the unique Chinese language characteristics in mind so that it can help learners to improve efficiently their Chinese listening and speaking skills.Therefore,this paper intends to begin with the characteristics of the GPA teaching method,and discusses how to apply this method to the actual elementary level of listening and speaking CSL class as well as explores its values.This will allow more people to understand not only the GPA teaching method,but also the significance of careful applications of the GPA teaching method for the further development of teaching CSL.The paper is composed of three parts: introduction,body,and conclusion.The introduction puts forward the reason for choosing the topic,the research status,the research methods,and the presentation of the academic circles' understanding of GPA teaching method and their corresponding application research,and then puts forward the research innovation points of this article.The body is divided into four chapters:The first chapter introduces the definition,theoretical basis,typical teaching activities,and phase divisions of the GPA teaching method.The GPA teaching method is mainly based on the Lev Vgotsky's Sociocultural theory,which includes a large number of listening and speaking activities.The learning process is divided into six phases.The second chapter introduces the operation aspects of the primary phase of GPA teaching method(the first and second phase)in different growth period,and draws a feasible analysis in order to apply it to the elementary level of listening and speaking CSL class.The third chapter gives applications of the GPA teaching method to the elementary Chinese level of listening and speaking class.By analyzing the teaching effectiveness of in-class applications and of after-class interviews,its implication shows that the GPA teaching method has achieved positive results in the elementary level of listening and speaking CSL class.The fourth chapter presents the practice of the GPA teaching method in an elementary level of listening and speaking CSL class.With the measurement of practice,it gives the advantages and disadvantages of the GPA teaching method,followed by corresponding practical suggestions for improvement.The conclusion summarizes the research results and deficiencies of this paper.With this,I hope that more people become attentive to the GPA teaching method.
