This paper is a report on the translation of the seventh chapter,Modernizing Confucianism and ‘new Confucianism',of the book The Cambridge Companion to Modern Chinese Culture. This book introduces and analyzes many aspects of modern Chinese culture in detail, and the seventh chapter chosen in this project is about Confucianism, introducing the modernizing process of Confucianism and the development of new Confucianism. In the source text, there are many long sentences as well as culture-loaded words and sentences, which are the difficulties for translating. With the guidance of communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark, these difficulties are solved by the translator in the translation process. In order to present an accurate, understandable and culturally acceptable translation to the target readers, the methods of domestication and back translation are applied in the translation of culture-loaded words and sentences, and the skills of division, conversion, recasting and amplification are applied in the translation of long sentences. |
