Research On The Art Exhibition Mechanism Of China In 1990s

"Mechanisms" means the structure,function and interrelation of organisms.Therefore,the research on exhibition mechanism is the research on curators and their identity,exhibition space,exhibition mode,exhibition fund source,operation mode,organizer,academic criticism of exhibition and their interrelation.If the art exhibition is compared to a building,it has been built and repaired continuously.Based on the case study of the representative art exhibitions in 1990 s in China,this paper studies how the art exhibition mechanism is gradually established and perfected in the continuous historical process.The first private exhibition of the "Unknown Painting Fair" in 1979 and the subsequent "Star Art Exhibition" outside the Chinese Art Museum were the earliest modern art exhibitions organized jointly by a group of folk artists in China.After the Star Art Exhibition,the artists express their artistic ideas and organize their artistic activities in the form of groups.From 1985 to 1986,a group or regional school of painting emerged all over the country,actively launching art activities and holding art exhibitions.Since 1987,people's enthusiasm for new art has been replaced by a more general cultural reflection.The 1989 Modern Art Exhibition declared the "ebb" of the new art.The 1990 s was the time when China's exhibition mechanism began to establish."1989 Modern Art Exhibition" is a combination of official exhibition and folk exhibition features.For the first time,Chinese contemporary art has entered the Chinese Art Museum with special meanings for exhibition.In 1991,the Chinese Contemporary Art Research Documentation Exhibition introduced academic criticism into the art exhibition in the form of literature exhibition.From 1993 to 1994,the Annual Nomination Exhibition of Art Critics emphasized academic purity by criticizing thecollective strength of critics.In January 1993,the "Post-89 China New Art Exhibition" operated commercially on the basis of galleries,while still maintaining an academic exhibition operation.In 1999,the "post-sensibility" pushed the avant-garde art experiment of "closed-door exhibition" to a new height.In 1992,Guangzhou Biennale replaced "sponsored" by "investment" in 2000.The "Shanghai Biennale" was an international exhibition sponsored by an official organization.The gradual establishment of China's exhibition mechanism is closely related to the opening of Chinese social thought and the pursuit of artistic legalization in contemporary Chinese art.The establishment of exhibition mechanism and the professionalization and standardization of art exhibition play an important role in promoting the development of Chinese contemporary art.The practice of contemporary Chinese art curatorial since the end of 1980 s has promoted the establishment of China's exhibition mechanism,and has an impact on today's art curatorial.
