With the development of aviation industry, aviation plays a more and more important role in the development of Chinese economy.Because of the differences in language and culture, effective communications in this field between China and other nations inevitably require the presence of translators. However, the author consults the relevant literature and finds that at present, the research on the translation of aviation technical texts is far from sufficient,so this translation report is intended to provide reference for research in related fields. The functional equivalence theory advocates paying attention to the needs of the target readers in the translation. The theory tells translators the rigid correspondence on the surface of texts is not advisable, and functional equivalence between the source and target languages is the key to dealing with translation problems.Nida's functional equivalence theory includes four aspects, lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence, and stylistic equivalence. This is a report on the E-C translation of an aviation technical text entitled "WFD Final Report".For this translation task, the features of aviation technical texts are analyzed and Nida's functional equivalence theory is selected as the translation theory. The author chooses SDL TRADMS as the translation aid to improve the efficiency of translation. This report consists of five parts:task description, translation process, introduction of functional equivalence theory, the case studies about translation methods of aviation technical texts, and the conclusion after this task.Studies have shown that,on the one hand, functional equivalence theory has a significant influence on the improvement of translation quality and on the other hand,it is not negligible that a single translation method cannot solve the intractable problems in translation,so sometimes the cooperation of multiple translation methods is essential. After summarizing the translation experience of this task, the author put forward the prospects and suggestions in order to provide reference for future translation of aviation technical texts.
