Discourse markers are widely adopted in all languages and are almost always used in daily language.Skillful mastery of discourse markers is one of the effective means to promote smooth communication.Owing to the complexity of discourse markers,for learners of Chinese as a second language,they are particularly difficult,especially at the intermediate and advanced stages of learning.Whether they can understand and correctly use discourse markers can be said to be an important indicator that reflects the Chinese level of Chinese learners.Based on the ontological research of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai”,this thesis conducts a special investigation on whether international students of the university can understand and master this discourse marker to enrich case studies on discourse markers and offer some references on the teaching of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai”.This thesis falls into the following several parts:Part One is the introduction.It respectively introduces the research origin,significance,methods,and origin of corpus,and briefly discusses the research status on discourse markers and discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai”.Part Two analyzes relevant corpus and studies the grammatical characteristics of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai” from the following two aspects: Firstly,the author analyzes the variant form of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai”.Secondly,the author analyzes its syntactical features.the author analyzes the semantic relationship of its antecedents and consequents.Part Three the author analyzes the semantic relationship of its antecedents and consequents.analyzes the pragmatic functions of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai” and offers analysis from such perspectives as interpersonal functions and pragmatic functions.Interpersonal functions include delaying the speech flow,making concessions to seek common ground,and adding supplementary explanation.Discourse functions include finding back,developing,and changing topics and starting a turn.According to the real condition of Hebei Normal University,Part Four designs the questionnaire in reference of oncology research,and investigates the three classes of Intermediate Class 2,Advanced Class,and Pakistan Group.Through analyzing the research findings,the author sorts out and summarizes the problems of international students.Based on the analysis results of the questionnaires,Part Five proposes relevant teaching suggestions and ideas from the perspective of teaching to provide references to the teaching of the discourse marker “hua you shuo hui lai”.
