Pingcheng(now Datong,Shanxi),the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty,was established by Tuoba of Xianbei nationality.In 398 AD.,Emperor Daowu Tuoba led Tuoba Xianbei to Pingcheng,where the prairie and the Han people of the Central Plains bordered,and here he “camped the palace,built the ancestral temple,and established the community.” It opened the nearly one century "Pingcheng era.”The century-old imperial capital is full of meteorology,business travel gathers,and ambassadors come together.Pingcheng has become a political,economic,and cultural center north of the Yangtze River.It can be called an “international metropolis” and an important transportation hub on the Silk Road.The rulers of the Northern Wei Dynasty operated in Pingcheng for nearly a century,which is the most brilliant stage in the history of Tuoba Xianbei and it was also one of the glorious times in Chinese history.The situation of unification and stability in northern China gradually took shape,and the Chinese civilization was sublimated as a whole.Music culture is deeply rooted in Chinese civilization.As the capital of a country,Pingcheng in the Northern Wei Dynasty has a variety of music culture.The music culture of Weidu Pingcheng includes at least four types,namely: the music culture of prairie nationality brought by the migration of population,the music culture of the Western Regions that flooded in due to the opening of the Silk Road,and the Central Plains that were accepted for the worship of the Han civilization,and the music culture of Jiangnan gathered by the political radiation.A variety of music cultures converge within a city,condensing into a bright and diverse music culture.Therefore,it has practical significance to study Pingcheng music culture,which can “restore” the music culture of the early and middle period of Northern Wei Dynasty.The researcher study Pingcheng music culture in Weidu,which can explore a new understanding of the study of the capital music in the Northern Wei Dynasty,returning its music to the main position of the music connotation of Pingcheng era,and define the category of Pingcheng music culture in Weidu and Yungang Grottoes outside the city.Studying the music culture of Weidu Pingcheng has foundational significance for the occurrence and development of music after Emperor Xiaowen Emperor Xiaowen moved to Luoyang in 494 AD,as well as the development of music throughout the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
