Conjunction Translation From The Perspective Of Discourse Cohesion

With the increasingly fierce competition in the academic circles,master and doctoral students as novice authors are also facing unprecedented pressure and challenges.The book Novice Writer and Scholarly Publication:Authors,Mentors,Gatekeepers explores the challenges and difficulties of academic publishing from three different perspectives: authors,mentors,and journal editors.This book is aimed at providing some help and guidance to novice authors,especially non-native English speakers.Because the feature of academic texts is its formal and logical language style,the translation of conjunctions becomes the focus and difficulty of such texts.This translation practice report adopts cohesion theory as its theoretical guide to explore the translation strategies for conjunctions in this practice report,and summarizes the translation strategies for conjunctions from specific case analyses.Through the case analyses,the initial translation and the retranslation are compared,and the theoretical analysis is combined to study the translation of conjunction,so as to make the translation smoother and more natural and let it in line with the expression habits of the target language.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the description of the translation task.The second chapter is the description of the translation process,including pretranslation preparation,translation difficulties,and proofreading after translation.The third chapter is the literature review of cohesion theory and conjunction.The fourth chapter is the case analyses.In this chapter,the specific translation examples of conjunctions are selected from the book,and how different conjunctions achieve cohesion and coherence at the discourse level under the guidance of discourse cohesion theory are analyzed.Finally,the translation strategy of literal translation,omission,amplification,and parataxis translation is used to solve the problem of conjunction translation.The fifth chapter is the summary of translation practice.It is hoped that this translation practice will promote the Chinese translation and dissemination of related academic works and provide the experience for the study on translation of conjunction in academic texts.
