This paper attempts to understand whether gender is relevant to the planning of ancient tombs and what role and significance it plays by the theoretical methods and research means of gender and settlement archaeology. The co-burial grave involved in same-sex co-burial grave and opposite-sex coburial grave,is reflected in the of "the opposite of the two sexes" and "the same sex cluster" through skeletal analysis the user of grave. The cemetery also presents "two-part structure" and "cluster pattern" because of the different tomb position shape and the scattered distribution of the tombs. Therefore, based on the cemetery materials of the Xia,Shang and Zhou Dynasties in the Yellow River valley, this paper takes "gender clustering" as the breakthrough point, the sex preservation condition of human bone and the information of the cemetery were divided into the upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin, the middle reaches of the Yellow River Basin, the north areas and the lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin, according to the geographical environment of the site selection, the orientation of the Tomb and the location of the tomb, the structural law of the Tomb is re-examined from the perspective of the sex of the owner. Then the author discusses that there are several regular patterns of position and the rules of grave sex distribution. It was used by different people in many areas and time periods to plan the cemetery, which symbolized the "living world after death".To some extent,it reflected the social attitude of gender, the concept of hierarchy and the design aesthetics in the planning of the cemetery. This paper provides a new perspective of the division of burial grounds —— gender perspective.Although it is limited in the condition of human bone preservation in practice,it can help to solve the problem of neglect of individual "scattered tombs" in the process of cemetery structure from the angle of blank belt, tomb orientation and burial custom.
