This report is based on the author's translation project of the book — Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers. This book is a professional brewing guidebook on water treatment, and involves large amounts of science knowledge in physics, chemistry, etc. The report categorizes the text type of the book as scientific text according to its lexical, syntactic, and textual features, and adopts Andrew Chesterman's theory of Translation Ethics in the translation anaylsis of the text.Chesterman's theory of Translation Ethics was proposed in his 2001 paper – Proposal for a Hieronymic Oath. The theory is constructed in the theoretical angle of the ethics in translation, and is mainly developed from the studies of Antoine Berman,Lawrence Venuti, and Anthony Pym.Chesterman describes five models of ethics in the theory, namely Ethics of Representation,Ethics of Service,Ethics of Communication,Norm-based Ethics, and Ethics of Commitment. The first four ethics are proposed as ethical principles in translation activities, and can be adopted in the selection of translation strategies. The last model, set as a professional commitment for translators, helps mediate the first four ethics. The report adopts the theory of Translation Ethics, and explores how each ethics is manifested in the translation process of understanding the source text, choosing proper translation strategies, and expressing. At the same time, the report analyses how the theory directs the choice of translation strategies on the language, discourse and cultural levels.By analyzing the manifestation of Chesterman's Translation Ethics in this translation practice, the report aims at exploring the instructional significance of the theory on translation strategy selection.Analysing translation strategies of texts about brewery from the perspective of Translation Ethics is a relatively new approach and the author hopes the report could thereby provide some reference to the translation practices in that field.
