In the era of globalization,as a cultural commodity with dual attributes of art and entertainment, film has become an effective tool for cultural output and communication.Global box office data shows that American superheroes and Chinese martial arts movies have become the most successful film types in the US and China's external communications. While American superhero movies and Chinese martial arts movies have certain commonalities in terms of theme, plot, and character construction, there is a large gap between the two in terms of total global box office revenue. This article takes the main characters of the two movie genres,American superheroes and Chinese knights as research objects, and uses content analysis to analyze the two from the five dimensions of character number and setting, personality characteristics, fighting time and fighting skills, weapons, and costumes.Similarities and differences in image construction.Through comparison,it is found that the superhero characters are rich in settings, unique in shape, distinctive in character, simple in storyline, and grand in the fighting scenes. They often stand on the cosmopolitan stand as the savior, conveying justice, bravery, kindness, and struggle.World values. However,Chinese knights are relatively complex, introverted, and mysterious.Their battles are pushed and cracked in real tricks and styles. The scenes are very artistic but lack special effects.Chinese knights marching into rivers and lakes to improve martial arts are not to protect the world and save the earth, but to the righteousness or righteousness of the Chinese nation. In general,American superhero films are more shocking in visual presentation, more universal in values, and more understandable in storyline,so they are more suitable as a carrier of cultural output for transmission in a global context. The deep history contained in Chinese martial arts movies and traditional cultures such as Chinese Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism have virtually increased the cultural barriers to external communication and restricted the understanding and acceptance of some overseas audiences. The successful spread of American superhero films around the world has virtually transferred American mainstream culture, values, and lifestyles to all corners of the world. This communication strategy is inspiring for Chinese martial arts films going abroad and telling Chinese stories. For Chinese martial arts films to adapt to global communication, they must demystify the spread of culture and values, actively seek cultural identity, and be good at telling Chinese stories using world languages.
