In recent years,with the increasing attention paid to children's education by the younger generation of parents in China and the increasing frequency of educational exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad,foreign family education books and documents have been continuously flowing into China and received very good response.With the introduction of a large number of foreign family education books into China,the translation of such books has played a decisive role in the popularization of family education.However,the current study of English family education discourse is not sufficiently deep,and the translation practice of family education books lacks comprehensive and systematic theoretical guidance.As a branch of popular science English,family education English is not only different from literary works or pure popular science texts,but is also a combination of science and literature.It has its unique characteristics and is of great significance for popularizing scientific knowledge and improving the scientific and cultural level of the public.Lately,the Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef Verschueren has attracted wide attention in the field of translation studies.It has made a new interpretation of pragmatics from a new and comprehensive perspective and has a strong explanatory power for translation.Chinese translators have applied this theory to the field of translation and explored adaptation in literary translation,tourism translation,advertising translation,etc.However,few of them have studied Chinese translation of family education texts from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory.In view of this,this paper attempts to introduce the Adaptation Theory into the translation of family education texts.Based on the pragmatic Adaptation Theory,this paper explores the Chinese translation of family education texts within the framework of the Adaptation Theory,and regards the translation of popular science English as a dynamic process in which translators make choices and adaptations to the context and language structure of the source language and the target language.Based on the case study of Parent Effectiveness Training,this paper attempts to demonstrate the applicability and explanatory power of the Adaptation Theory in English translation of family education books from the perspectives of non-linguistic adaptation and linguistic adaptation,so as to help improve the translation quality of family education book translators,meet the expectations of family education book readers,strengthen the popularization of family education knowledge and achieve effective cross-cultural goals.
