Based on the translation of Foreign Policy Decision-Making,the chapter 33 of Oxford Handbook of International Relations, taking the translation units like vocabulary and sentences as the research object, this paper discusses the translation strategies of academic texts.Through the comparison and analysis of the first draft and the final version of the translation, problems encountered during translating were selected, and corresponding solutions were also put forward under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory. After continuous attempts,it is concluded that better translation for words should be selected by fully verifying the materials and combining the actual context with the cultural background of the target readers. At the sentence level,it is necessary to divide the sentence reasonably and recombine the components appropriately under the condition of ensuring the logic of the original text.At the textual level,we should focus on not sticking to the format of the original text, but to rearranging the text according to the wording habits of the target language,so as to facilitate readers' understanding and absorption, and provide a more friendly reading experience for readers interested in international relations.
