| In recent years,the world has witnessed a rapid development of tourism,so it comes as no surprise that the market demand for tourist texts translation is on the increase dramatically.However,owing to the lack of quality translation of tourism texts,plenty of tourists are incapable of understanding and appreciating the culture and history of their travel destinations when they are traveling abroad.Therefore,the author selects a guidebook The Rough Guide to San Francisco and the Bay Area as the original text of this translation practice.The guidebook contains San Francisco’s history,major attractions,transportation,accommodations,food,etc.In this translation practice,the author chooses the first and second sections of chapter three as the research material and takes Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the theoretical guidance to translate the text through the analysis of the text type.Once the translation was completed,the author made an analysis and summary of the translation practice.According to communicative translation theory,target readers shall get the same effect from the translation as what original readers get from the original text.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the author tries to probe into the methods of E-C translation of tourism texts from two aspects: translation of typical words of tourist texts and syntactic translation.The conclusions are as follows:(1)tourism texts belong to informative and vocative texts,aiming at providing practical tourism information for readers and arousing their interests in tourism.(2)Communicative translation theory is suitable for the translation of tourism texts which belong to informative and vocative texts.(3)By completing this translation practice,the author believes that the communicative translation theory has a preferable guiding function to the translation of informative and vocative texts.Through this translation practice,the author has an in-depth understanding of how to apply communicative translation theory to the practical translation of tourist texts.It is hoped that this report will provide some reference for the future translation of tourist texts. |
