A Practice Report On Representation Of The Objectivity In The Chinese Translation Of Social Science Text Beauty Around The World—A Cultural Encyclopedia(Excerpt)

Beauty around the World—A Cultural Encyclopedia is a book focusing on the aesthetics around the world.It introduces readers how people pursue “Beauty” and explore “Beauty” under various cultural backgrounds.Based on the translation process of the book,this report mainly discusses the representation of objectivity in social science text translation from three aspects:lexical interpretation,language context analysis,and semantic logic processing.As a social science-type text,it has these characteristics: scientific content,rigorous wording,flexible expressions,complex sentences,and strict logic.During the initial translation,due to the inaccuracy of lexical interpretation,the lack of in-depth language context analysis,and improper processing of semantic logic,the translation failed to deliver text information faithfully,reflect the rigorous and objective style of the source text.Therefore,the objectivity of the text could not be represented.In order to deal with the inaccurate lexical interpretation,the solutions include:targeted strategies on professional vocabulary,conversion of nominalization structure and appropriate supplement of word meaning.In reference to achieve in-depth analysis of language context,the solutions are: situational context transformation,cultural context transfer,and linguistic context judgment.With respect to improper processing of semantic logic,the solutions are: sentence reconstruction,voice conversion,and sentence compression.Through the practice and analyze of translation cases,it is shown that the above translation strategies are effective to improve the quality of translation and thereby better achieve the representation of objectivity in the text,which has certain guidance and reference for the Chinese translation of social science texts.
