This report is based on the E-C translation of Sightseeing in Philippines, which was a tourism text that introduces natural and scenic spots and diverse cultural customs in the Philippines. The first two chapters were chosen to be translated. There is a surge on Chinese tourists to Philippines, yet the E-C translation hasn't reached the purpose of making a clear convey with normative translation.Due to the long colonial history, the language and culture in Philippines are mixed with a lot of exotic cultures, and the source text is filled with a large number of culture-loaded words, which brings difficulties to translation and needs to be dealt with consideration to better serve the readers. There are mainly two characteristics:(1)the language vacancy;(2)the culture vacancy caused by unique colonial culture. In the process of translation, the translator has consulted a large number of relevant background knowledge and has determined that these difficulties can be conveyed satisfactorily.Based on text features and translation barriers,Christiane Nord's text analysis theory is applied as the guidance for the readership's acceptance and comprehension.Three methods are chose hereby, including transliteration with annotation, free translation, and omission,to ensure the readability and accuracy in the translation process. This report is targeted to provide a clearer translation for the Chinese tourists to understand Philippines better and make a further exploration for translation methods of culture-loaded words in tourism text and hopes to offer referential value.
