This report is based on the E-C translation of Tort Law Sixth Edition which was written by Nicholas J.McBride & Roderick Bagshaw.Tort Law Sixth Edition was supported by hypothetical case scenarios and combined detailed coverage of the legal principles. One chapter of this book was chosen to be translated including the introduction of trespassing to the person.Tort Law Sixth Edition belongs to legal text and the language of the text is clear and objective. Some legal terms and sentences with formal subject make it a tough challenge for the translator to translate. Therefore, the thesis took sentences with formal subject as the object of study.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos Theory—skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule, the translator discussed some translation strategies and three effective methods applied in dealing with sentences with formal subject in the ST(Source Text)with some examples.Three methods include division, omission and interpolation. This report aims to further explore the translation methods of sentences with formal subject in legal texts and make some contributions to the theoretical and practical development of legal translation. There is no Chinese version of Tort Law Sixth Edition at present. The translator hopes to accumulate relevant experience through this translation and provide reference for future legal English translation.
