Research On Language Use In Guangzhou Xiaobei Community

This thesis chooses the Black Africans who reside in Guangzhou Xiaobei Community as the research sample,to collect data by methods of observation,questionnaire and interview.The results will be used to study the language use status,the language environment and the language attitude of Black Africans.Problems led by Black Africans who live in Guangzhou have become a huge society issue.Guangzhou Xiaobei Community is the most typical African community in our country,but there are not many linguistic investigations conducted in this area.The discovery is limited.Therefore this study will gain its value and significance from these points below: Theoretically,it fills in the blank of linguistics research toward Xiaobei Community,which is a typical African community in China.It applies the Sociolinguistics theory to illustrate the language environment issue,supports the further studies by providing authentic data.Practically,the study makes a way to help the government manage and serve foreign black people better,to promote the language harmony and the society harmonyThe thesis is composed by six chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the research,including the contents,the study method and research value.Chapter 2 is the literature review,to summarize the academic achievements over the world;Chapter 3 is the investigation results on language use of Black Africans;Chapter 4 illustrates the results of investigation on Chinese language use,and analyze the data;Chapter 5 is about the characteristics of language use and factors of language environment,to explain the causes;Chapter 6 is the last chapter,it looks forward to the future and puts forward some suggestions.The innovations of this study is: for the first time,operating a comprehensive and systematic language survey in this community;interpreting the language use behavior of Africans of Xiaobei from the perspective of language community.This paper holds a point that the government should support and promote the communication between different languages and races,and establish a harmonious and symbiotic multi-lingual community.
