With the acceleration of global integration in politics, economy, and culture in recent years, interpreting has built bridges between China and the rest of the world. As an important form of interpreting,Chinese-English consecutive interpreting is widely used in foreign exchanges, which is of great significance to research. As an important pattern of Chinese sentences, structurally run-on sentences embody the characteristics of the Chinese language.Due to their complexity and variety, structurally run-on sentences become a key and difficult point in the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting, which has attracted much attention from interpreting researchers. Therefore,it is particularly important to study the effective strategies of structurally run-on sentences in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting. This is a practical report of simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting based on the fifth and sixth episodes of documentary film of the Power of Reform in Zhongguancun. From the perspective of Skopos Theory,an in-depth research is conducted on prominent phenomenon encountered during the simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting process, such as redundancy information, implied logical relation, vague language.Case study shows that reduction, splitting and reconstruction can be applied to deal with sentences with redundancy information.Implied logical relation can be settled by adding logical connectors and converting sentences structures. There are two approaches to tackle sentences with vague language, such as adding appropriate explanation and domestication. It is hoped that this report can offer some reference for interpreting structurally run-on sentences in similar contexts. |
