Against the backdrop of globalization, the capacity of technological innovation has increasingly become a decisive factor in national competition.Baidu World Conference, held by Baidu, provides a great opportunity for communication inside the industry. Therefore,it is of significance to interpret speeches in the conference.Taking Li Yanhong's speech at Baidu World 2016 as an example, this report analyzes challenges and tactics in C-E consecutive interpreting of sci-tech speeches under the guidance of the Skopos theory. As an important theory in translation and interpretation, the Skopos theory creatively puts forward principles and methods in order to free translators and interpreters from the constraints of absolute faithfulness to the source language.Interpretation is a communicative activity with strong purpose, that is,to achieve effective exchanges between different cultural groups. The theory consists of three rules(the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule)and the analysis of the project is based on these rules. In the process of interpreting, the author has found four main difficulties:terms related to technology and marketing, precise lexical choices, redundant information and loose structures. From the perspective of the three rules in the Skopos theory, the author proposes five tactics:literal translation, free translation, omission, amplification and structural reorganization.By applying the tactics above, the author tries to better serve the purpose of the speech and to achieve effective exchanges, thus the validity of the Skopos theory in C-E sci-tech speech interpreting can be examined. This report is expected to share opinions of the C-E consecutive interpreting practice guided by the Skopos theory.Any inspirations from the report would be of great significance for both the interpreter and the report.
