In recent years, with the deepening of China's cultural exchanges with other countries, interpreting has played an important role in the spread of Chinese culture to the world.Consecutive Chinese-English translation is widely used as an important form of interpreting.Structurally run-on sentences as an important sentence pattern of Chinese sentences embody the characteristics of Chinese language.Due to the complexity and diversity of structurally run-on sentences, which involve words, sentences and texts, structurally run-on sentences are the key and difficult point in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting, which has attracted extensive attention from interpreting researchers. This paper is a report on the practice of simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting. The selected corpus is Yu Minhong's speech “Growing Up Through Failure and Exploration” at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As there are a large number of structurally run-on sentences in speech, the translation of structurally run-on sentences into English can be studied deeply.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, three problems are found in the translation of structurally run-on sentences from Chinese to English. They are sentences with no subjects, loose sentence structures and redundant sentences.Case study shows that adding appropriate subjects and using passive structures can effectively solve the problem of sentences with no subjects.Adding conjunctions and grasping the main information of sentences are the best ways to deal with the loose structure of structurally run-on sentences.Omission and sentence recombination can eliminate the problem of sentence information redundancy. It is hoped that these translation strategies can provide reference and help for interpreting in the future.
