This practice report is written based on the author's interpreting practice of the teach-in of Energy and Power Engineering in the School of International Students of SIE.On May 10,2019,during the practicing month of MTI students organized by the School of Foreign Language of SNU,the author provided a Chinese-English consecutive interpreting for the teach-in of Energy and Power Engineering. The task lasted about an hour. The teach-in involved some basic knowledge of the major, including its history, talent training and main laboratories. The author was required to possess consecutive interpreting skills and know relevant knowledge and terminologies. When analyzing the record of the practice, the author identified the problem of disfluency in the target language. To avoid repeatedly occurrence of this question in the future interpreting tasks, the author studies the disfluency in this interpreting practice.Gile's effort model is feasible to guide the study of disfluency in the practice.Gile found that the way brain requires information from source language and transcode them into target language is not fully understood, yet it needs energy to connect the two languages.Once the supply of energy cannot meet the demand of energy, interpreters could make mistake in the interpreting process.Under the guidance of the effort model, the author classifies the disfluency in the practice into three types: repetitive utterance, improper pause and rephrase, and the reasons into three types: inadequate of preparation, high density of information and lack of professional knowledge, and then floats three coping strategies based on the reasons: the prediction and interference of information, compression or expansion of information and self-monitoring and repairing. The author makes an effort to solve the disfluency in the practice with these coping strategies. At last, the author summarizes the major findings and limitations in the report. The author analyzes the disfluency based on the record of this practice.Guided by the effort model, the author floats coping strategies for disfluency in the practice, finding that the strategies work for the disfluency.
