A Study Of Interrogative Pronouns On The Construal Of Negative Meanings

Interrogative pronouns are common words in modern Chinese,and they can be used in many ways,except to indicate referents and questions in sentences,some scholars believe that interrogative pronouns have also developed negative meanings,and this linguistic phenomenon is called “the negative usage of interrogative pronouns”.This paper studies the language fact and analyze the function of interrogative pronouns in the negative usage of interrogative pronouns and divided into six chapters.Chapter one is introduction.It mainly summarizes the research on interrogative pronouns,negation research and the relationship between them.The current research status of negation of interrogative pronouns in the academic world can be concluded as: few specialized research with more research angles which are not unified.Therefore,this paper uses context theory,pragmatic reasoning and relevance theory to study the negative sentences of the 11 interrogative pronouns.At the same time,the research methods and corpus sources of this paper are also introduced in this part.The second chapter describes and analyzes the negative usage of interrogative pronouns according to the different nature of the negative objects.There are two main conclusions.One is negative objects can be classified into four types: negative things,negative actions,the nature or state and the number of negations.The other is a certain correspondence between the second negation object and the negative meaning of the sentence.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of negation of interrogative pronouns.According to the different objects of comparison,the characteristics of negation of interrogative pronouns are divided into internal and external characteristics.The internal characteristics are the differences between various usages,which mainly reflected in the degree of negation and the way of negation.While the external characteristics reflected in the use of interrogative pronouns and comparison with grammatical negation(by negating the negative adverb list)and general interrogative sentences,which mainly reflected in different forms and different semantics.The fourth chapter analyzes the generation mechanism of the negative usage of interrogative pronouns.This chapter describes and analyzes the pragmatic,syntactic,and cognitive mechanisms of negative pronoun usage in detail.The pragmatic mechanism is mainly reflected by the contextual factors that can highlight thenegative definition of the sentence.The syntactic mechanism is mainly reflected in the rhetorical question which provides the basis for the sentence without doubt and the premise of judging the negation.The cognitive basis of usage.Under the combined effect of these mechanisms,the cognitive mechanism motivates people to produce negative usages of interrogative pronouns,prompts the listener to understand the negative attitude in the speaker's discourse,so the entire sentence shows a negative definition.The motivating situation of the cognitive mechanism mainly uses Lu Mingchen's discourse meaning construction to show the semantic construction of the negative usage of interrogative pronouns.According to different construction methods,the language facts are divided into explicit and implicit ways.Sentences of the explicit way are easier to pass the form Recognized as a rhetorical question,the listener can quickly get the negative definition of the sentence based on the rhetorical question,but the sentence of the implied path requires more complicated analysis and judgment to get the negative definition of the sentence,and then understand the sentence as a rhetorical question.sentence.The fifth chapter mainly discusses the causes of the negative usage of interrogative pronouns,which are divided into internal and external causes.Internal factors are mainly the influence of semantic blurring of interrogative pronouns and contextual information on sentence semantics.The semantic change of interrogative pronouns makes interrogative pronouns no longer used as interrogative operators in the negation of interrogative pronouns;the definition of negation in a sentence requires context,so contextual information,that is,sentence group information,is the reason for the negative usage of interrogative pronouns.One.The external causes are mainly the speaker's discourse goal and the listener's recognition of knowledge.Both the discourse goal and the knowledge recognition mechanism will prompt the listener to understand the sentence negatively,which provides pragmatic and cognition for the generation of the negative usage of interrogative pronouns.Explanation.Chapter VI is conclusion.This article summarizes the conclusions drawn in this article,and also points out that there are still some shortcomings in the paper: First,the scope of the study is small,only the situation of 11 interrogative pronouns has been investigated,and the situation of other interrogative pronouns has yet to be investigated;In the research of negation of interrogative pronouns,the main focus is on the common features of negation of interrogative pronouns.The research on the characteristics of negation of interrogative pronouns needs to be further explored.
