This report is the reflection on the English-Chinese translation of an energy report—Hydrogen: a Renewable Energy Perspective. It is aimed at exploring the guiding significance of the translation shift theory to the translation of the energy reporting text.Accordingly,an overview is given of the stylistic features of this genre, which is followed by an analytical description of the specific stylistic features of the source text. Then a discussion in the form of case analysis is made of the translation methods guided by category shifts and level shifts.Considering the syntactic features and difficult points of the source text, especially the various unequal relations in the process of English-Chinese translation, the report analyzes the translation methods of structure shifts between active and passive tenses and between theme and subject prominence.Given the unequivalent value in units of the source test and the target text, the translation methods of class shifts are analyzed. In view of the unequivalent rank which happens between the source test and the target text, the translation methods of unit shifts are discussed. In light of the equivalent difference in level between the source test and the target text, the translation methods of level shifts are explored. The report finds that seeing that the energy reporting test is high logical,fact-oriented and focuses on the transmission of information, the translation shift theory is conducive to conveying more effectively the information, knowledge, opinions, data and other facts carried by the text, and to achieving the translation equivalence on all levels by using basic translation methods.
