This is a report on the translation of the academic paper The Evolution of the View on the Internet and the Sanction Thought of Cybercrime written by Yu Zhigang. The paper analyzes the development stages and classifications of cybercrime, discusses the response strategies of China's criminal law,and puts forward new thoughts on legislation in response to the new challenges brought by cloud computing technology. This translation report includes four parts: introduction, description of the project, translation difficulties and solutions and conclusion.Guided by the four principles proposed by Susan Sarcevic, including “legal translation is a process of multilingual-communication among law systems”,“the changing role of the legal translator”,“the category of legal texts plays a primary role when legal translators make reliable translation decisions” and “terminological equivalence in legal translation”,the translator applies translation strategies such as reconstruction and deletion and analyzed the translation difficulties at both lexical and syntax level. The difficulties include translation of legal terms in the field of cybercrime, vagueness of subjects, repetitions, metaphors and similes in the source text.In this report, the translator selects some examples with their linguistic distinctions from the target text to illustrate the translation difficulties and the solutions thereto. With source text and target text as its appendix, the report summarizes translator's firsthand experiences and shortcomings of the project.
