This thesis is a translation report. The original text of the translation project is selected from The Self and World in Schopenhauer Philosophy. This is a master's thesis written by Christopher Janaway. The main contents of the thesis is to examine the development and content of Schopenhauer's philosophy in detail, and through the progressive analysis step by step in-depth of Schopenhauer philosophy of the self and the world idea. After checking, the translator confirmed that there is not any official Chinese translation of the paper. The translator selected the first two chapters of the thesis as translation materials and specified them in the translation practice report. The text translated by the translator is a philosophy paper,so the background knowledge of the work and the context of the passage are important difficulties in translation. The translator needs to figure out the difficulties in translation on three levels, including polysemy, hypotaxis and parataxis, functional equivalence and so on.For these difficulties, the translator adopts one-to-one correspondence to address these problems with different translation methods such as synthesis, linear translation, conversion and recasting.Through this translation practice, the translator has grasped the translation methods of philosophical texts to a certain extent and realized many shortcomings in his translation. To make a good translation, translator need to constantly improve his professional skills and reading of relevant books, and enhanced his translation skills in more practices. In this translation report, the translator believes that the general steps of philosophical text translation are:(1)do background research to understand the specific historical significance and connotation of a philosophy,as well as the previous and subsequent philosophies which adjacent to this philosophy. This requires the translator to have a certain method of independent philosophical research and a systematic understanding of the history of philosophy.(2)make a more detailed investigation on the background of the initiators and researchers of philosophical thoughts.(3)identify the difficulties in translation, and combine case analysis and use appropriate translation skills to solve the difficulties encountered in translation.(4)revise and polish the translation under the guidance of the tutor.
