A Practice Report Of Simulated Consecutive Interpreting On Press Conference By Foreign Minister In 2017

This is a report on the simulated interpretation of the Foreign Minister's Press Conference in 2017.Interpreting is playing an increasingly important role in promoting development,exchanges and cooperation among countries.Due to the authority of the Foreign Minister's Press Conference,the interpreters should have good language skills,rigorous thinking and logical ability,and at the same time,they also need to master some interpreting strategies based on theories.Therefore,the Foreign Minister's Press Conference is a typical case for interpreting study,especially for consecutive interpreting study.The guided theory of the report is the Adaptation Theory.Since Jef Verschueren put forward the Adaptation Theory in 1987,a large number of domestic experts and scholars began to introduce the theory into the field of translation,such as advertising translation,literary translation and so on.However,at present,the application of interpreting at press conferences is still relatively rare.So the author hopes that this study can provide a meaningful research perspective for future press conference interpreting.Jef Verschueren believes that the use of language is a process of continuous selection and adaptation,and the selection occurs due to three characteristics of language: variability,adaptability and negotiability.This study is based on the Foreign Minister's Press Conference in 2017,and mainly from four perspectives: contextual adaptation,adaptation of language structure,dynamic adaptation and salient adaptation.In this paper,the author analyzed the specific process of adaptation interpreting by combining with specific cases,and verified the practicality and guidance of Adaptation Theory in press conference interpreting.Under the guidance of Adaptation Theory,interpreting is a language choice and adaptation based on the language habits,cognition and cultural background of the target language audience.In the interpreting of the Foreign Minister's Press Conference,the strategy guided by the Adaptation Theory realizes the adaptation to the relationship between language structure and context,and achieves the effect of dynamic adaptation.The author hopes that this study can help readers understand the operability of Adaptation Theory in the interpreting of Foreign Minister's Press Conference better and provide some references for the researches and practices of interpreting.
