A Simulated Interpretation Project Report On Press Conference By Foreign Minister Wang Yi Under The Guidance Of The Interpretive Theory

The project report is based on the material of the Press Conference,which isabout China's foreign policies and relations discussed in the third session of the 12th National People's Congress by Foreign Minister Wang Yi.It is a simulated consecutive interpreting practice under the guidance of the interpretive theory.According to the performance of the interpreter and the recording transcription,the author discovers and analyzes the problems to demonstrate the whole interpreting process.The conference lasted over 90 minutes.Wang Yi totally answered 17 questions with a few diplomatic languages,strong political statements and so on,involving the hot diplomatic issues like One Belt and One Road,China-Russia relations,China-US relations,China-Japan relations,South China Sea and North Korea.Meanwhile,the conference revealed that China's diplomacy is more confident and much opener;the international influence of China is increasing;China advocates a fair and reasonable world order;the Chinese Foreign Minister is praised by the world for his demeanor,which are also the reasons why the author chose the press conference as the study object of the project report.The report consists of five parts.The first chapter is about the description of the task,covering the background of the project,the features of the project and the requirements for interpreter.The second chapter is about the description of the process.It contains the preparation before interpretation,the interpretation process and management after interpretation.The preparation before interpretation includes preparations in ordinary living and before a specific interpreting practice;and while-interpretation describes the performance of the interpreter;the post-interpretation includes the quality assessments of interpreting,transcription and self-improvement of the interpreter.The third chapter introduces the interpretive theory used in the interpreting practice in detail,including three parts:the brief introduction to interpretive theory,nature and procedures of interpretation.The interpretive theory holds that interpretation is a dynamic process from understanding,deverbalization to reformulation.The forth chapter is the case study.At first it gives a detailed analysis of the problem types during the interpreting process,including four-character words and phrases,parallel and balanced sentences,long and difficult sentences and Chinese culture-loaded expressions;and then the author uses different interpreting skills to analyze the cases under the guidance of interpretive theory,such as amplification,omission,conversion,literal interpretation and free interpretation.The last chapter is the conclusion part,which contains three aspects,one is the lessons from the project,one is the reflection of unresolved problems and another is the expectations of the future study.
