Prefabricated Chunk is a string of coherent words or other meaningful units which are ready-made and stored in the memory.Since the concept of Prefabricated Chunk was proposed,scholars have studied the definition,classification and effects of Prefabricated Chunk on Second Language Acquisition.However,the positive effects of Prefabricated Chunk on interpreting,especially on effort distribution in simultaneous interpreting are ignored.This thesis analyzes the positive effects of Prefabricated Chunk on effort distribution in Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting.By storing and using Prefabricated Chunks,the interpreter can solve the difficulties on effort distribution and the quality of simultaneous interpreting can be improved partly.Based on the transcript and video of simultaneous interpreting of the keynote speech delivered by Premier Li Keqiang at the opening of the Boao forum for Asia annual conference 2019,this thesis firstly summarizes difficulties on effort distribution,including special linguistic phenomena,high density of information and differences between Chinese and English.And then it analyzes the positive effects of Prefabricated Chunk on effort distribution in simultaneous interpreting from such aspects as working memory,speech production and forecast.From the positive effects of Prefabricated Chunk in these three aspects,part of difficulties on effort distribution can be resolved and the quality of simultaneous interpreting can be improved partly.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some suggestions on improving the quality of simultaneous interpreting and simultaneous interpreting teaching.
